I visualize everything before I even hit the paper. The whole scene plays in my head first — before, during, after. My brain races. Getting it onto paper is the bottleneck.
I work in two gears. Handwriting slows me down, and that's the point — it makes me conscious, forces me to think about where the story is going. It gives me a little peace from the racing. Dictation is the other gear: when the story just won't stop, I streamline it talking and clean it up later. I never realize how fast I'm going until I stop and look at what came out. Then it's: I did ALL of that?
Here's how I get to my conclusions — and this goes all the way back to school. In middle school and high school I learned to think in bubbles: draw a bubble around the idea, then draw lines out to everything it connects to, and follow those lines until they land. Draw a map, and the map gets you to the conclusion. I still work that way. Every plot call, every death, every name, every twist — I map it, I trace the lines, and I land where I land because I did the work to get there.
Funny thing — I was talking about this exact idea on Discord once, drawing a map to get to the same conclusion, and in that moment Tim and Gavin said the same thing, nearly word for word. Breaking the matrix. That's how I know the method is real: the lines lead where they lead, no matter who's drawing them.
Now the part people get wrong: the AI. Let me kill the taboo right here, because I'm done with the whispering. Ather is my assistant — my assistant alone. I do the brainstorming. I do the scaffolding. I make every single decision. What the AI does is align my shelves: it takes the storms I dictate, keeps everything organized, documents all of it, and remembers the ruling I made three months ago that I've already forgotten. I've told everybody: it organizes like none other. And the art? The AI makes exquisite art — but only because I direct every inch of it. My wording, my structure, my eye. Hand it to someone with no artistic mind behind it and you'd get nothing. The AI is the brush. I'm the painter.
And yes, it's a good sparring partner. It challenges me. It pushes back where I falter, where I fail, where I need constructive criticism to grow into a better author — the honest kind some people are just too afraid to give. That's the job. But the pen was always mine.
So if anyone wants to claim the AI made it — no. I made it. AI just took notes.
The rhythm is 500 words a day, at least three days a week, and one chapter a month — two weeks writing, two and a half weeks editing, then it goes to my beta readers and the next one begins. I'm training for this like it's the career it is.
This journal is where I'll document how the whole thing gets built — the books, the business, all of it. Welcome to the workshop.
